Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was founded on the campus of Howard University on January 16, 1920 by 5 dedicated women who chose to go against the standard norms of sorority life on the campus of Howard University. These women who we call our "Five Pearls" chose to embrace a sorority which focused on sisterly love, scholarship, service, and finer womanhood, and through their vision and encouragement by A. Langston Taylor and Charles R.S. Taylor, who were members of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. the torch for Zeta had begun. Even though Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was the third sorority to be founded, Zeta was the first to a constitutional bond to a fraternity, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Thus Sigma and Zeta are the only and true brothers and sisters in Greekdom. Zetas and Sigmas share the color fo Royal Blue and White, two Greek letters, and a history and bond that only others can envy and imitate. Zeta is the only sorority to have adult and youth auxillary groups: Pearlettes, Amicettes, Archonettes, and Amicae. The Amicae are women who are not members of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., but who still share the same ideals and goals. Zeta was also the first sorority to have a paid administrative staff and have chapters in Africa and West Germany.
